Spider-Man’s Final form – Man-Spider

Just imagine, a monstrous creature in spiderman costume with six arms. Well, for those of you who follow the comic books may actually know this as a near-mindless duplicate of Spider-Man, named “Doppelganger”, but what I am referring to is a comparatively lesser known character from a popular series. Just like Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2”, Spider-Man from Earth-92131 i.e. from the 1990’s “Spider-Man: The Animated Series” started to lose his powers. In this universe, he actually visited Dr. Connors for a detailed analysis. Dr. Connors analysed Peter’s DNA and found that the “spider-bite” actually started a mutation that made Peter “Spider-Man”, but it looked like his DNA started to go back to its original state. Dr. Connors continued his analysis to observe in case of any changes. Spidey visited after he defeated the “Insidious Six” (Earth-92131’s version of Sinister Six) and gained his powers back. This time Dr. Connors alerted Spidey that the process that made him “Spider-Man”, just started the transformation, and that his DNA is still mutating the whole time. Which means that Spider-Man losing his powers seemed to be just a part of it. But that’s not it, Dr. Connors also revealed that the “mutagenic factor” in his DNA has undergone another transformation, not just that, the mutation has also been accelerated. Dr. Connors was not sure what Spidey was turning into, however the only thing that he was sure of was that it wouldn't be human. Peter knew that he could use all help posible, so he approached the X-Men. He explained his situation to Professor Xavier, however he left in frustration once Prof. Xavier revealed that he can just guide the mutants, not “cure” them. Beast could relate to Spidey’s feelings as he also tried to stop his mutation long back, therefore he followed Spidey. Beast eventually got captured and Spidey eventually teamed up with X-Men to rescue him. Spidey eventually approached his friend, Dr. Mariah Carwford for help. Spidey was going through a lot of pain due to his mutation disease and thought that Dr. Mariah could cure him, just the way she cured her boyfriend “Kraven”'. Dr. Mariah prepared a cure, however she needed a bit more time for observing the effects of the formula just in case her calculations prove to be inaccurate. A frustrated Spidey didn’t accept to wait for more time and went into a rampage, forcing Dr. Mariah to provide him the serum. However, she continued to observe the effects of the serum. Later she observed something and immediately called Kraven for assistance. She informed him that the serum seems to start accelerating the mutation instead of suppressing it. She hoped that Spidey didn’t take the serum, however in Parker’s residence, Peter consumed the serum thereby immediately mutating to his next stage of mutation with 4 extra arms. Peter immediately suited up and went to Dr. Mariah informing her about her cure. In the meanwhile Michael turned back to his vampire form and left the hospital. Peter felt responsible to Michael’s condition as it was his mutating DNA that turned Michael to his vampire form. He went searching for Morbius, however Punisher arrived to kill Spidey(as he thought that Spidey kidnapped Michael based on the news informing the same in the media). Spidey eventually crashed into a warehouse where Punisher followed him. This is where Spidey mutated further to his final form dubbed “Man-Spider”.

Man-Spider had feelings from Peter, however he possessed not much of Peter’s memories. Man-Spider could shoot acid from its mouth and was also the very first version of Spider-Man that had organic webbing. Man-Spider continued his search for Morbius while also fighting the Punisher. Kraver finally arrived at the scene trying to locate Man-Spider on his girlfriend, Dr. Mariah’s request. Punisher was eventually captured by Man-Spider and taken to the “World Trade Centre '' parking garage. Kraven followed the wall crawler’s scent and arrived there, rescuing the Punisher. Dr. Mariah explained Spidey’s situation to Punisher explaining that the only monster there was the Punisher himself. Hearing this, the Punisher decided to assist Kraven to suppress Man-Spider’s movement thereby allowing Dr. Mariah to administer another cure, this time reversing the effect of the serum that accelerated the mutation. However, the nightmare wasn’t over yet. Peter would have to continue visiting Dr. Connors to stop the mutation anytime the extra arms start to grow again. He had to use the “Neogenic Recombinator'' (the same device that gave him his powers) to stop his mutation.

Vulture started a scheme to kill Norman Osborn, thereby working on a youth-stealing technology. However, everytime he steals someone’s youth, he would turn back to his original state some time. Spidey attempted to stop him, however, Vulture eventually managed to steal Spidey’s youth. This time, Vulture’s youth seems more permanent than before, he felt much more powerful than before, meanwhile, Peter turned old and felt much weaker due to his old age. He went back to his home where his Aunt May lent him some warm clothes that belonged to her nephew believing that the old man in front of her was in need of it. With his newly gained strength, Vulture went to attack Norman, however as he went for his final blow, something started to happen. Vulture mutated to Man-Spider. It was later revealed that absorbing Spidey’s youth made Vulture’s power pretty unstable. He would mutate to Man-Spider randomly anytime and would turn back to his youthful human form automatically, but he was unable to return to his original form. Vulture visited and threatened Dr. Connors and Dr. Stillwell (who was responsible for the creation of this universe’s version of Scorpion) for assistance. Apparently, Vulture accidently absorbed Spidey’s mutation disease along with his youth. Dr. Connors was eventually forced to lure Spidey to the lab and reverse the effect of the youth-stealing tech. Spidey arrived and Dr. Connors started to work on reversing the effects, however, he tricked the Vulture by transferring the youth back to Spidey but not the mutation disease. Vulture started to mutate and went into a rampage, meanwhile Scorpion also arrived at the scene to threaten Dr. Stillwell to turn him back to his normal state. Eventually, the lab was destroyed along with the Neogenic Recombinator. Later, Vulture somehow managed to cure himself of the mutation disease, however his age constantly kept changing.

Alternate version

The final two episodes of the series was the very first version of Spider-Verse where Peter met alternate versions of himself from different realities. One of these variants was a six armed Spidey(from Earth-39811). This spidey eventually mutated further to Man-Spider and went into a rampage. Beyonder had to eventually arrive at the scene in order to stop him by teleporting him away.
