Hello everyone, I hope y’all are doing great.
This week, I binged all parts of Digimon Adventur Tri series for the very first time. Through out the whole series, there were a lot of times when I had no idea on what exactly was going on. One of the questions that came to my mind was why Meicoomon could not be saved at the end of the series. I did had a little idea but not a lot of it. This blog is my theory on the same.
A quick disclaimer, I have not watched any Digimon series besides Adventure series (Excluding the last evolution movie) so my knowledge on Digimon is mostly limited to Adventure series, however I did some research before writing this blog for things I didn't understand from Tri series that had some connection from other series.
Digimon Adventure Tri series was primarily a fight between Yggdrasil (King Drasil in English Dub) and Homeostasis. Initially I had no idea on who these entities were, however on further research I found that Homeostasis did appear in the first Adventure series episode 45 where she possessed Hikari's body to communicate with the Digidestined. In this episode, Piedmon implanted something on Gennai that might be the cause of his corruption in Tri series.

Homeostasis never took a physical form. Yggdrasil did not appear in Adventure series including Tri, however Yggdrasil did appear in some other series in a physical form.
Yggdrasil is the basically like a server that hosts the digital world. Yggdrasil considers Human World as a threat to Digital world and therefore wants to end it. Due to this, Homeostasis came into existence to replace Yggdrasil. Homeostasis, just desire balance and harmony, nothing more, nothing less and is ready to do literally anything for that as shown in Tri series.
Now starts my theory, it is possible that what was implanted to Gennai was some data from Apocalymon (the main antagonist of the first adventure series). It was revealed during the Tri series that Meicoomon was born with some data from Apocalymon. Its is possible that the part of Apocalymon implanted within Gennai was been activated by Yggdrasil to have him turn to dark side and then dark Gennai prepared the Meicoomon's digiegg just like he worked on Digidestined's Digimon eggs, execpt that he used a part of Apocalymon's data within him instead of Digivice and Crest.
Due to this, Meicoomon was born with some data from Apocalymon. Apocalymon lived outside the physical Digital World, in a space outside the Physical Digital world. Apocalymon was constantly evolving that led him there. It is possible that the Apocalymon's data that was been implanted in Meicoomon kept evolving reaching a non-binary unknown number system, messing up the her structural number system from binary number system that all digital devices use as well as what Digital world and all Digimon are made up of, to an unknown number system. Since this unknown number system is non-binary, it acts like a virus for the Digital world and as well as all the Digimon. It's like a corrupt data for the Digital world and Digimon. This is the reason why Meicoomon occasionally used to go into rampage.
When Homeostasis learned about the corrupt data, Meiko was been chosen as a digidestined with Meicoomon (code named Libra by Homeostasis) in order to make sure that Meicoomon stays in control. Meicoomon stayed in control for the most part after meeting Meiko, till she got kidnapped by dark Gennai. In the past, Meicoomon has shown a pattern of going into rampage when in fear or any strong negative emotion. This probably enabled "Meicoomon Saltation mode", eventually evolving to "Meicrackmon Vicious Mode" before the reboot of the Digital world. The corruption in the digital world originated from Meicoomon' body, so it is possible that her physical structure was changed to the unknown number system completely. Due to this, the Digital world did not recognised her as a part of it during reboot. This is why the reboot had no effect on her. Some may point out that Hackmon also retained all his data, to which I would say that Hackmon was not been infected and was probably in the human world during the reboot. Even if he was in the digital world during reboot, he was the messenger of Homeostasis due to which Homeostasis must have backed up his memories before reboot.
When dark Gennai attacked Meiko, Meicoomon was forced to unleash her dark side to save her partner. She locked all her memories along with the memories of the whole Digital world before reboot in order to forget everything and give in to her corrupt Apocalymon data. When Taichi seemed to have died, Hikari got filled with rage and sorrow, the two negative emotions that is the foundation of the fallen angel Digimon Ophanimon Falldown Mode, lead to her partner to ultimate evolve to Ophanimon Falldown Mode and merge (potentially Jogress a.k.a DNA evolve) with Raguelmon merged to form Ordinemon. Tailmon retained her consciousness and was therefore eventually separated from the fusion. On the other hand, most likely due to the unlocking of the memories of the whole world, Meicoomon was way too exhausted and was already taken over by the corrupt data due to which she could not transform back to her original form. Basically, the corrupt data within her didn't allow her to transform her back. Since she was in Ordinemon form but without Tailmon, there was empty space that was then taken over by Yggdrasil. Since Ordinemon was been controlled by dark entities and Meicoomon had no chance of returning back to her normal form, she herself she what was needed to end her through Meiko's Digivice. Even if she returned back to her normal form, the corrupt data was a part of her, so her end was the only way.
That's my theory on why Meicoomon could not be saved in Digimon Adventure Tri. Now the question arises, can Meicoomon re-born? Normally if a Digimon dies in the Digital world, they are born again in the form of Digiegg, however if they die in real world, they die, they can't come back. However, in Tri series, it was revealed that a reboot of the Digital world can bring them back. The same is true for Meicoomon as well. Not just that, if Meicoomon reborn in this manner, she would potentially be born without the corrupt data. I don't think they would have done that, even thought they could have backed up the memories of the Digital World before reboot and restore the memories after reboot.
