Watched for the first time: Moon Knight - Season 1

Hello everyone, I hope y’all are doing great.

So, Initially I planned to write a blog for each episode. As a result, there is already a blog for episode 1 and episode 2.  Eventually I decided to post one blog for the complete season.

So, overall, did I liked the series?

Initially I had a fear that the series will become confusing, then, I started to like the series. However, as I feared, things started to get confusing from the second last episode. Don't get me wrong, I really likes how Steven and Mark worked together to gain the balance of heart they needed. Mark found Steven locked in a coffin. The two did encounter another coffin with what I believed at the time, could have been Mark's third personality. I thought that it was finally the time when Mark and Steven will meet their third personality and the three of them meeting will bring their heart to balance. Instead, it was Steven's sacrifice that brought their heart to balance. Mark's backstory and how he created his other personality "Steven Grant" in order to escape the harsh reality was heartbreaking. Steven realised that Mark is the original and not him and accepted it too. Mark had a rough childhood, especially after his brother died and his mother started treating him harshly considering him his brother's murderer.

For Mark, Steven became like a brother to him and vice versa. That is why Steven sacrificed himself and Mark left the "Field of Reeds" aka Aaru, to get back Steven. This was because of how the two of them worked together before. It was Steven's brain that helped Konshu and Mark to locate Ammit's tomb. It was Steven's knowledge that helped them get ti Ammit before Harrow. All these things made Mark realise how much he needed Steven. It was Mark's brawn that helped them survive various threats. Mark gave Steven confidence to fight just like Mark being Mark's other personality. When Mark and Steven held their heart together, it opened the gateway to the world of the living.

I actually also like the chemistry between Layla and Taweret. From the moment Taweret started to talk to Layla and offered her to become her avatar, I had a feeling that Layla will eventually become Taweret's avatar. Then Layla finally managed to release Konshu who offers her to become his avatar that she refuses. At that exact moment, Mark finally came back to life and Konshu made him his avatar again. This time however, the tables turned. Steven and Mark refused to fight until Konshu accepts their condition. The condition to set them free once they defeat Ammit. I was delightful to see Mark and Steven work together against Konshu. It was even more delightful to see the two of them coordinating their attacks transforming into Moon Knight or Mr. Knight based on who was in control. I was wonderful to see how Layla finally became Taweret's avatar. Since Moon Knight suite looks like Konshu's suite, I thought that Layla would get a suite similar to Taweret, which, in my opinion, would not have suite her. However Taweret choose a suite for Layla and it looks good. I recently came to know that this form is called "The Scarlet Scarab".

Harrow becoming Ammit's avatar was pretty obvious since the beginning of the series. Harrow eventually gained an upper hand over Mark/Steven and then they blacked out and gained back consciousness just to find Harrow defeated and them having an upper hand. Mark and Steven knew this time that it was not the two of them who did that. Not sure why they didn't had any doubts about potentially having another personality. They then managed to seal Ammit inside Harrow, but refused to kill him.

All these seemed pretty straight forward. The confusing part was the mental hospital part. At first I thought that it was all in Mark and Steven's mind as those scenes contradicted the other part of the series. There was one part where Mark and Steven were Konshu's avatar who was fighting against Harrow who wanted to resurrect Ammit. There other part was where Mark and Steven were in a hospital and the first part was just an illusion making whole series so far to be just a story made up in Mark and Steven's head and Harrow actually turning out to be their doctor. But then, Harrow's feet started bleeding due to the glass he puts in his shoes before wearing it. The big twist was when Harrow ended up in the same mental hospital, only to be abducted by a mysterious guy. He is taking to a car where he meets none other that Konshu wearing formals, waiting for him. Konshu wanted to finish what Mark and Steven refused to do and thus uses help from a friend. The friend turned out to be Jake Lockley, the third personality of Mark and Steven. Jake then killed Harrow, thereby eliminating the chance of Ammit's resurrection.

Jake's introduction was not shocking to me as was actually expecting to see much earlier. However his introduction made the already confusing series even more confusing. All the parts of the series were wonderful, however I am now confused about what actually happened.

Jake is a psychopath, which, I believe could have been born out of all the jealousy that Mark had towards his brother. It is possible that Jake could indeed be the one responsible for Mark's  brother's demise and also the reason for getting chosen by Konshu as his preferred avatar.

I would give this series 7/10. It could have been 9/10 if they didn't make it so confusing though.
