In this blog we are going to discuss how what a lot of fans speculated actually happened in Boruto Manga Chapter 79.
So, I personally was really not expecting what just happened. A lot of fans speculated that in the flash forward we saw in the beginning of the series, Boruto is the antagonist while Kawaki is the protagonist. I personally never believed and as a result what happened in Boruto Chapter 79 really shocked me.
The Chapter continues with Kawaki continued running while Konoha sensory team trying to locate him. Kawaki reached his limit while trying to suppress his chakra and Eida seem to have sensed him. Eida fly towards Kawaki and tells him that she is on her side. On the other side, Shikamaru and Konahamaru are also trying to find and reach Kawaki. Mitsuki also runs to find Kawaki filled with anger as Kawaki ended up hurting his best friend. On Boruto's request, Sarada also goes behind Mitsuki to make sure he doesn't do anything reckless. Kawaki explains Eida why he needs to eliminate Momoshiki and how it is impossible for anyone in the village to kill him with the hokage's son being Momoshiki's vessel. He also expresses that how he needs to do what other can't and how much it pains him to bring his own brother down.
Meanwhile Momoshiki is enjoying his time watching everything coming down. And then, it happened.
When I reached this page, I was like "What just happened?" and guess what, Eaida and Kawaki also had the same reaction. Momoshiki was having real fun watching these events unfold. he asked a question to Boruto confirming what just happened. He asked "How does it feels to lose everything?"
Something strange starts to happen, Mitsuki, yes none other than Mithsuki attacks Boruto asking him to tell where he has sent Naruto and Hinata and even uses "Sage Transformation", even Sarada is shocked witnessing these events. Not just that, Konona shinobis who were after Kawaki are now after Boruto. This is when Momoshiki reveals that Eida's shinjutsu power that she can not control is "Omnipotence" which is the power to alter people's memories and apparently due to what was going on between Kawaki and Eida, it changed everyone's memories swapping Boruto and Kawaki with one another. Kawaki is now Naruto's son "Kawaki Uzumaki" and Boruto is now and outsider who backstabed Naruto. The only ones unaffected are Eida and Outsutsuki (like Boruto and Kawaki) are unaffected with Sarada being the only non-Outsutsuki exception who retained her memories. So, in a way, Boruto and Kawaki switched places making Boruto the antagonist in everyone's perspective.
This changes everything. I am not quite sure how Sarada is not affected, however the whole village is after Boruto. Boruto might have to leave the village and might actually end up surrendering the control over to Momoshiki. It is not yet clear who would the one who destroyed Konohagakure in the flash forward, it could be Boruto going into rampage or a result of Boruto fighting the villagers to get to Kawaki in order to defeat him and rescue his parents. It could be Kawaki who did it after somehow Eida's charm's effect wear off and the village gets after Kawaki again. It could be the result of Kawaki and Boruto fighting one another. We can't really say anything right now, however the twist this chapter brought was really something I never expected.
